Apart from Tacoma X-Runner pickup truck, Toyota has also brought Tundra Sportsman to this year’s SEMA auto show. The custom pickup has been created in partnership with Bass Pro Shops and is an outdoorsman’s dream rig. The truck has been built on the base of 2011 Tundra Double Cab 4×4 and is equipped with the optional TRD Rock Warrior package. The custom pickup is propelled by a 5.7-liter V-8 engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
In the custom built process, Toyota has given the truck a three-inch lift, 18-inch Teflon-coated ATX wheels and Nitto Mud Grappler 33×12.5/R18 tires. The machine has 7-feet by 13-feet deck that sits above the Tundra’s camper shell, containing a pop-up camouflaged tent and hunting blind. Truck has been split into three zones to serve double duty as the ultimate sportsman fantasy transport and base camp.
In the driver side of the cargo box is firearm storage zone and box opens vertically and entire bed swings out to a 90 degree angle, thus giving access to two steel locking rifle cases integrated into the cabinetry for safe keeping and there is also a safe to store a pistol, sleeping bag and fold-down work bench that folds down from the bed wall to provide a work space.
The passenger side of the bed also opens vertically and there is enough room for two bows andarchery accessories, a small closet with a slide-out coat rack to keep hunting outerwear andfoul weather gear. At the back of the bed, the camper shell and tailgate opens to showcase a rugged kitchen with space for a Coleman gas stove, a sink with seven gallon water tank and storage space for other paraphernalia.
In order to improve its off-roading capability, Tundra’s breathing system has been altered to help it through deep-water crossings. Vehicle has custom air intake and snorkel and its exhaust has been rerouted up through the bed. The inside of the vehicle which is a command center for extended hunting trips has essential field electronics like weather station and GPS installed. This vehicle has weather protected material that include the TRD Rock Warrior bucket seats, black Rock Warrior carpeting, all-weather Browning branded camouflage floor mats and to keep the occupants entertained it has 10 speaker JBL sound system supplemented by JBL all-weather outdoor speakers.
