At the James Dyson Award, several eco-conscious designers flaunted their sustainable designs to make our planet a better place to live in. Among all types of high-tech contraptions at the competition, a simple human-powered apparatus, dubbed Saguaro Rain Collector, successfully emerged as one of the top twenty entries. The smart water conservation product pressurizes the collected water through an ordinary bicycle pump.
Made from rotationally molded polyethylene, the Saguaro utilizes a pressure regulator to release the stored 550 Kpa of pressure to ensure that the rain collector remains at a constant 70 Kpa. As a result, the air tank makes 100 L of water pour out in just 5 minutes. A pressure release valve is also there to ensure safe operation. This practical and cost effective improvement makes the Saguaro Rain Collector an appealing water conservation option to a society striving for sustainability.
