Sunshine in Chavignol!

After a grey and frequently wet day yesterday, the sun is shining today. We stayed overnight at Jean-Marc Bourgeois Hotel-Restaurant la Côte des Monts Damnés. Our generously sized room (room: Chasse en Sologne – €110-150 depending upon the season) was very comfortable and certainly quiet overnight. Once again we had a very good dinner here. We were with Jean-Marie Bourgeois. Ist course: Jean-Marc’s special tagliatelle with fresh crottin and the feuillette of crab, main course: rognons de veau and the rable de lapereau. We all finished with the pear soufflé. The 2000 MD initially was quite lean but its mineral character soon came through. We also tasted the 2001 MD – more evolved but more expressive on the nose.

To follow we had the NZ Clos Henri Pinot Noir 2006. Jean-Marie explained that they are now in the middle of building their winery for their New Zealand operation in Marlborough. “We had the architect’s plans at the beginning of the year. Construction started in May and we will finish next March just in time for the 2009 vintage."

Off to Pouilly-Fumé this morning with Benoît Roumet, the director of the Bureau du Centre.

More reports on yesterday's visits and today's to follow.
