Gérard Taureau at the 8th May ceremony 2011

In August Epeigné-les-Bois lost Gérard Taureau, who was Maire of the commune for 24 years from 1959 to 1983.

Edited from La Nouvelle République (12.8.2011):

2011 Loire vintage: Saturday picking 17th September

During the harvest in Touraine, weekend picking of small parcels of vines is often done by family and friends. Yesterday I passed a vineyard between Epeigné-les-Bois and Francueil where my guess is that this was a case of family and friends getting together for the 2011 vendange.

Our 2011 harvest in its entirety

It is with great pride and pleasure that we present here our entire 2011 harvest from our vines@Epeigné-les-Bois. Picked with due ceremony on Tuesday 30th August – our earliest vintage on record. Such a bijou production (of eating grapes) makes the volume produced by Château le Pin appear industrial...

Epeigné-les-Bois: brief news round up

(Some news from Mark Robertson, Jim's Loire's occasional Epeigné-les-Bois's distinguished correspondent.)

Mark in traditional attire

Moules Frites (13th July) went very well, promised showers didn’t materialise and the Comité des Fêtes served close to 1400 meals (and 1000 crèpes).

Veraison started at the Clos Chossay for the Cot and Sauvignon a week ago and we’re looking at a very early vendange. We did have some rain (15mm) Saturday the 16th July and a few showers since.

The Moulin de Bourg is not formally for sale, but has had some viewings. (Potential as a small hotel/chambres d'hôtes?)

Sadly the Detour (Civray-en-Touraine) seems to have shut for good.

More positively the restaurant at Le Lézard Vert in Epeigné is busy and its reputation is spreading.

Traditional patriotism from Epeigné's Maire!

Always at the cutting edge and leading the pack Epeigné-les-Bois kicks off France's annual Bastille Day celebrations on Wednesday 13th July from 6pm with the traditional moules frites.

The forecast is for occasional showers – if so hope that they are exceedingly rare!
