The town of Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine has long been cut in half by N10, the main road from Paris to Bordeaux with four lanes through much of the town. However, the volume of traffic has been greatly reduced by the opening of the A10 autoroute to Bordeaux a number of years ago.

The mayor, Christian Barillet, plans to spend nearly one million euros taming the road now renamed the D910 by reducing it to two lanes, planting trees, putting in roundabouts and encouraging restaurants and cafés to put out tables and chairs.

Work is due to start in autumn 2010 and finish the following year. Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine is famous for its goats cheese.
