Congestion in cites is something we are and we more vigorously will be face to face with in future. Keeping in mind the problem, IBM is developing new software that will let the driver know one hour in advance if the traffic jam is about to form. This will give the drivers a chance to divert their ways. The project is named as ‘Predictive Modeling’ and the software uses the combination of ‘real-time data from road sensors and cameras with historical traffic information and weather forecasts’. In order to maintain accuracy of the info, every six weeks the system checks back through the data to tweak its model. The warning about traffic jam will be sent to drivers’ sat-nav systems and to electronic roadside signs as well as voice recommendations would be sent to a driver’s mobile phone. The system seems promising and will help drivers avoid clogged which in turn will reduce traffic jams.
