Italy, the world’s one of key solar markets is to produce 7,000 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity by June 2011. The European country that added 2,300 MW of solar capacity in 2010 will realize a record production of solar capacity by midyear 2011. Since the government’s incentives for photovoltaic power is to expire in June, more people are expected to make use of solar system for power. That means more solar capacity will naturally be produced in the coming months, Italian officials associated with the solar power project hope.
On public request, the government with a special decree in December 2010 extended the incentives up to June 2011. The government seems to have no plan to extend the program as it doesn’t want to further weigh down the consumers, who pay the incentives for the solar program in their power bills.
“I think we can arrive at 7,000 megawatts at the end of June,” hopes Gerardo Montanino, director of GSE’s operating division. Some 200 megawatts out of total 4,000 megawatts turned operative in December 2010. Gerardo hoped that some 3,000 megawatts of solar capacity would be produced in the country by June 2011
