Japanese automaker, Nissan, together with NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. has announced the joint development of a simulator. The making of the simulator is aimed at promoting the greener motoring to a new level and will give people an experience of the near future of Yokohama City in virtual reality. The city is based on the Yokohama Smart City Project – a venture to realize the low carbon city – and has a Smart Grid charging network in place.

The simulator produces an ultra high-definition 3D image with pixels approximately four times larger than the full high-definition image and is the first one that allows more than one vehicles to travel and interact with one another simultaneously. Four people can use the simulator at a time and it can render road structure, buildings and facilities without any restrictions on a 3D screen, thus allowing the city landscape and functions caused by the introduction of the smart grid studied multilaterally and experientially.

The simulator is also to be used to test the next generation ITS (Intelligent Transport System) which provides the driving support related to safety, efficiency and convenience. The simulator is to be showcased during the CEATEC JAPAN 2010 IT & Electronics expo in the beginning of October.
