The Quiot family, who have extensive vineyards in the Rhône and Provence, recently announced on their blog that due to one of their workers applying the wrong product to vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape seven hectares are now virtually dead with no grapes. Experts are unable to say if and when these vines will recover.
From the Quiot family blog:
‘The Vignobles Famille Quiot have been badly hurt by an employee's mistake who have pulverized 7 hectares of Chateauneuf-du-Pape with a wrong product. The consequences are catastrophic.
One month after the application, experts can't say if the vineyard will stay alive and when it will give grapes anew. We know that the years to come will be difficult.
Difficult and thankless.
We will have to bring all our care to this plot which won't give any fruits. We will try to save a vineyard which is today almost dead, without any certainty that the vines will react positively.’ More here.
They estimate that 35,000 bottles have been lost.
