Tired of driving and feeling sleepy but have to drive your car to reach home? Well fret no more! Braindriver is at your rescue. As the name suggests, this technology developed by German researchers helps manoeuvre your vehicle by using power of your mind but takes only basic commands.
An electroencephalography system designed for gaming and other shelf parts have been used to shower power over an autonomous Volkswagen Passat, which doesn’t move at a very fast pace. Robotic cars have been pouring in ever since. From cars which even a person with no eyesight can drive developed by Virginia Tech University students to robotic Audi TTS, a lot of efforts have been made to make driving brain controlled. Bracketing for more than 140,000 miles are autonomous cars by Google have and even Volvo is in the race after having successfully tested autonomous “road trains”.
What’s new?
The company is making good use of BCI (brain-computer interface) to control the vehicle. But this doesn’t work well when used by everyone and a research is being done to find out the exact reason why some people absorb BCI easily and others remain BCI-illiterate.

How it works?
Emotive has built an electroencephalography headset which is brought to play in BrainDriver. Electromagnetic signals in the brain after being measured by sixteen sensors are sent to the computer which further converts them into instructions/directions. If you want to turn left or right, halt the car, just think once and the car’s drive-by-wire autonomous system neatly controls the steering, accelerator and brakes.
The impact
Such cars can be fed with unending information. The reaction time of drivers who are robots is much faster than humans. They won’t ever get distracted or feel sleepy like we do which will avoid road collisions. It is anticipated that such cars will make space for more vehicles as they can drive closely without ramming into each other. Keeping this feature in mind such cars can be crafted out of lighter material which will further reduce fuel consumption. Hope it doesn’t crash like our systems do !
