Hoping to become the first Arab nation to host the World Cup (2022 FIFA World Cup), Qatar has sought the expertise of Foster + Partners to design the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Doha. The superb football facility will allow 86,250 spectators and players to feel the charm without having to worry about the near-extreme summer conditions. F+P revealed just recently revealed its project at the Leaders in Football conference in London.

Qatar plans to use this stadium for holding opening ceremonies, opening games and final matches. The stadium will employ eco-friendly cooling technologies to ensure perfect playing conditions. The saddle-shaped roof will rest upon a concrete seating bowl with a retractable canopy.

Spectators will have to cross a moat over a reflective pool of water that encircles the stadium. The canopies over the parking and service area will feature solar panels, which will generate renewable energy for the stadium. Surplus energy generated by these panels will power the surrounding community.
